Marvelous Middle Grade Monday - 39 Clues

Marvelous Middle Grade Monday

Shannon Whitney Messenger decided it was time to give middle grade stories the attention they deserve, and "Marvelous Middle Grade Mondays" was born.

39 Clues: Maze of Bones
by Rick Riordan

Goodreads Blurb:
Instead of 39 steps, billionaire Grace Cahill left her heirs 39 clues scattered around the world. At the end of this circuitous trail are the answers to a great family mystery, but Amy and Dan must decide whether any prize can be more important than the rescue of their missing parents. The beginning of an enthralling ten-book arc.

I know many of you are probable already familiar with these books, but I had to plug them in case some of you have been missing out. They are too good to miss.

I used this book as a read-aloud for part of a mystery unit I've been doing in a couple of my classes. The kids and I had so much fun! I love Rick Riordan's sense of humor, and my students begged me to read book 2, too.

Each book in the series has a different author, but they are all big names in MG literature, like Gordan Korman and Patrick Carmen. And they are all full of adventure, suspense, and MG humor. The brother and sister team make them equally appealing to boys and girls. These books are perfect MG reads!

** Others who can be counted on for MMGM: **
 Happy Monday!

I've heard such fun things about this series--I clearly need to check it out! What a fun book to read aloud to kids. :)

I think it's really interesting that each book in the series has a different author. I'll have to check it out!

Interesting! I have not heard of these (but my son has). The intriguing part is that each in the series is written by a well-known author and incorporating their style into it all--love the concept!

I've only read the first two in this series, but I liked them a lot.

I don't read any middle grade fiction.

Rick Riordan must have carpal tunnel syndrome from all the books he's written. I haven't read these ones, but they certainly sound intriguing!

My son LOVES this series! I (via him) highly recommend it. :)

Funny, I read the first one the second it came out, and got a big kick out of it, but then never went back to read any of the others. Guess it would be better to read them all! :)

Good choice, Shannon.

For some reason, I thought this series was written entirely by Rick Riordan; I guess not!

I saw this series when I was at Borders a few months ago, but I didn't buy it! I'm definitely going to have to give them a try. They sound so interesting!

I really enjoyed book 1 but never checked out the rest of the series. There are so many of them to keep up with.

Yep these books are quite popular but I have yet to read any of them. I think I let the fact that they are written by different authors turn me off. Maybe I should reconsider. :)

My 11 year old loves this series. Too bad for the "I can't read it cause by brother has" rule my sons have; otherwise, my 9 year old might have like to have read it.

My granddaughter just started carrying these around. She is really into them. I haven't had a chance to try one but they are on my list. Thanks for a great review!

I haven't read these yet, but I've definitely heard of them. I'm hoping they will catch my son's attention one of these days!

Love Rick Riordan! And I loved this book too. I was considering reading it aloud later on this year, glad to hear it worked well! I think I'll give it a shot :)

I keep meaning to pick these up and read them. They look like so much fun and I think my boys would love them someday. :)

I've always wondered about this series. There are just so many of them!

I haven't picked this up yet b/c I'm not a big Reardon fan. At least I wasn't fond of Percy Jackson (too cartoonish for me). Maybe this one is different. I'm always willing to give authors another chance on a different series.

If there are 39 clues, how come there's not 39 books? And do you have to read them in order? If so, that's interesting that each other has to continue the story.

My son (high school freshman) still loves these, and is continually bugging me to read them. I really need to find me a deserted island or a team of servants to free me to read all the books I need to read.

I've heard it's a good series. I didn't realize different authors were writing the different books. How cool.
