MMGM -- On the Bright Side Blog Tour

Goodreads Blurb:
As if the devil’s food cake at her wake and the white fat pants she’s stuck wearing for eternity weren’t bad enough, fourteen year-old Gabby is quick to discover that Cirrus, the main rung of Heaven, is a far cry from the Pearly Gates. Here, SkyFones and InnerNets are all the rage. At her first Bright ceremony, G.O.D., the automated assignment system, spits out Angela Black, Gabby’s arch nemesis and longtime fencing rival. As a Bright, Gabby has to protect Angela, her assigned mortal, in order to move up through the training levels of heaven.

Back on earth, Angela starts hitting on Michael, Gabby’s crush and should-have-been boyfriend. Gabby’s pranks to quell the love are harmless at first until the school dance sabotage gets completely out of control. Then, Celestial Sky Agent, Lawrence, who happens to have anger management issues of his own, steps into reveal that Angela has big problems, and what she really needs is Gabby’s help.

Determined to right her wrong and ease her mother’s grief, Gabby steals an ancient artifact that allows her to return to earth for just one day. But if Gabby’s not careful, her well-meaning mission just might shift the very foundation of Heaven, Earth, and every place in between, causing the danger of the dark side to roam free.

I was lucky enough to be a part of Shelli's first blog tour for the release of UNTRACEABLE, her YA novel, which I thought was great. So, of course I jumped at the chance to read and review her new MG release. I can't believe the difference in voice! Nailing voice is one of the things we authors often struggle to get right. Not Shelli. The middle grade voice and humor in ON THE BRIGHT SIDE is spot on.

Gabby is a truly lovable character. Shelli's portrayal of "heaven" is creative and fun. The supporting characters are perfect for their roles in Gabby's life/death. I alternated between laughing and holding my breath. This is a perfect story for tween girls!

Awesome that you're part of both blog tours. I agree, voice is hard to nail, especially in middle grade.

So excited for Shelli.

How fun to be in on both releases!

Voice, yes, that THING that readers take for granted that causes writers so much angst.

I'll have to check this out just for the voice. Voice is king in MG. The story sounds great too.

Like everyone else, I struggle with voice all the time.

I've never heard of this book! Sounds like a lot of fun. Is it only available on Kindle?

Sounds great! (I know someone else who's nailed that MG voice... no names, but her initials are S and O'D)

This sounds way cute. I'm loving the concept. Is there a real God besides the G.O.D.?
