You know you’re getting older when…

1. You find yourself being laughed at by your husband, because you have to hold the children’s Tylenol bottle at arm’s length in order to read the dose

2. You start thinking Botox might not be so bad

3. You are the oldest in your critique group by more than a decade *sob*

4. You keep getting invited to bridal showers and baby showers for former students

5. It’s easier to go to bed at 8 PM than it is to get out of bed at 8 AM

6. Your kindergartner has to teach you how to use a smart board *true story*

7. Too much noise is beginning to make you nervous (not a good sign for a teacher of hormonal teenagers and mother of three)

8. You would rather stay home and read than go out with friends

9. You get up in the middle of the night (or morning or afternoon or evening) and you gimp around like a hobbled horse.

10. Riding the Ferris Wheel makes you nauseous

Imagine me singing the "I feel Good!" song by James Brown. Got it? Okay. Now, Imagine me singing it to the words, "I feel old!" Yep! That's me.

What makes you feel old these days?

Here this will make you feel better.... What the heck is a smart board????

Sigh....

Valerie Geary said...

Yeah... no idea what a smart board is... :) Also... ferris wheels make me nauseous too. And #8? Nothing to do with age. I've been doing this since I could pick up a book! :P So see... younger already! :)

Oh man, this list...I am definitely getting old!

BTW, I was watching TV the other day and an ad for KOMO news was on...and the news corespondent's name was Shannon O'Donnell. I just wanted to let you know YOU'RE FAMOUS!

I accepted old age (42) this year and got readers. Can't text w/o 'em!

I'm falling apart, that's what makes me feel old(er). The sad thing is, I'm not. And neither are you. But it sure feels like it some days, huh?

My friends and I like to pretend we're five years younger. It's funny what a difference that makes! We're not actually that much different now than we were five years ago, but somehow the NUMBER effects us mentally and emotionally. The solution is to modify the number.

:)

Marybeth & Valerie - Oooo, that does make me feel a little better. A smartboard is the cool whiteboard thing they use on the major news networks - the ones they can move stuff around on with only their finger!

Angela - I know! Anytime I want to do anything with my name, she got to it first. Plus, my middle initial is "K." (for Kristine) and her middle name is Kay.

Mary - Yep! I have them, too. :) (I'll be 42 in March)

L. T. - Thanks. That cheers me up!

Elle - You're right. So...I'm really only 36. Oh, I like that! :)

I find eating cupcakes magically takes 5 years off your age. Made a batch of soccer ball cupcakes just yesterday so I'm feeling nice and youthful. Try it. ;)

I live vicariously through my characters. This way I'll never age :)

LMAO -- particularly at 8 & 9 b/c I've been doing that since I was 18 :)

LOL. Will it make you feel better if I tell you I could totally relate to at least half your list and I'm only 28? Of course, 28 is getting awfully close to 30...

And, um, I owe you a HUGE apology, because I just realized I'm not following your blog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *hangs head in shame* I totally thought I was. I know I've been here before and I *thought* I clicked the follow button but um...either it was a blonde moment or there's a conspiracy working against me. (Or maybe there's some sort of universal paradox about 2 Shannon's following each other--I don't know!!!)

Anyway, I *hope* I've corrected the problem now, so I look very forward to following you now!

Anissa - Hmmm...not a big cupcakes person. Do they make cheesecake cupcakes?

Steph - good plan. Why didn't I think of that?

Bane - Thanks for commenting. 18 huh? Well, that does make me feel a little better. :-)

Shannon - Because you have an awesome name and because you are preparing to take over the entire blogosphere with your popularity (I don't want to be caught out in the cold when become Czar), I forgive you. LOL!

Hey, Shannon! It's great to meet you! Thanks for coming over to my blog. I look forward to getting to know you!

What's been boggling my mind these days are that my friends' "kid" brothers and sisters (I mean, I remember when they were born!) are getting married and having babies. Strange... :0)

That is an awesome list!

Your list is very, very true!

I swear my knees are decades older than the rest of my body. Getting up and down can be a really interesting challenge.

The lines around my eyes make me feel old.

I'm with MaryBeth (and I have a kindergartener) what's a smartboard? Also, i almost always prefer to stay home and read. :-)

Thank you for stopping by my blog today!

:) I had to observe some teachers in their classrooms and having the students call me Miss was very surreal.

The ultimate for me is having a doctor who is my age. (I know--wait until they get younger than me!)

The fact that I completely connect with numbers 1, 5, 7, 8, 9, and 10.

Shannon O'Donnell said...

Kristen - Yep. Been there, done that, too. Thanks for coming by and commenting.

Kelly - Thanks - glad you like it.

Jemi - Oh, I know. My knees and hips just kill me sometimes.

Jessica - Oh, yes...the eye lines. For me, it's the ugly shadows underneath. (see my answer up above for the smartboard) ;-)

Bethany - But I bet it was also way cool! :)

Rosslyn - I hear ya there!

Catherine - Ha-ha-hahahaha! ;-)

Love it. I felt really old when I realized that this year, 18-year-olds were born in 2001! I was traveling Europe while they were being born. Talk about depressing.

Tabitha Bird said...

Um, I am 33 so I am really trying not to feel old. But is creeps up in little ways sometimes. LOL to lisa and Laura's comment. That makes me feel old too!

Susan R. Mills said...

Thanks for joining my blog. Yours is lovely. I look forward to getting to know you.

I totally relate to your list and I'm only 34. I was visiting some older ladies in their 70's a while back and they were sharing all their aches and pains. I fit right in - ahhh - I'm getting old. The gray hairs sprouting at all angles is also a major downer.
