My oldest son (almost 13) and I love this series. We pre-order every new book and wait anxiously for them to arrive. Then he gets to read them first, while I try to be a nice mom and patiently wait my turn. Not always easy.
Here is the book description found at Goodreads:
He had always wanted to be a warrior. The Rangers, with their dark cloaks and shadowy ways, made him nervous. The villagers believe the Rangers practice magic that makes them invisible to ordinary people. And now fifteen year-old Will, always small for his age, has been chosen as a Ranger's apprentice. What he doesn't realize yet is that the Rangers are the protectors of the kingdom. Highly trained in the skills of battle and surveillance, they fight the battles before the battles reach the people. And as Will is about to learn, there is a large battle brewing. The exiled Morgarath, Lord of the Mountains of Rain and Night, is gathering his forces for an attack on the kingdom. This time, he will not be denied . . . .If you are looking for a new fantasy series or a good series of boy books (good for girls too, though) The Ranger's Apprentice series is wonderful!

OME! I love this series. My nephew (12) got me hooked on them last summer. Great read.
We read it in between the Percy Jackson books!
Awesome. I'm always stumped as to what books I should get my nephew (he's 13). Now I know (of course, I might have to read them first--hehehe). Thanks!
That does sound really good. I LOVE goodreads!!
Thank you SO much for that recommendation!
I can't WAIT to get it for my son!
Back in my teenage days when I played a bunch of RPGs, Rangers were always my fave characters. Have to check these out.
Courtney - I missed you too, Princess! Good to have you back. :-)
Steph - Don't let them go until you've read them. :)
Lindsey - Me too!
Jennie - He'll love them.
Bane - If you like Rangers, you'll love these.
Always good to hear about good reads for boys! Thanks, Shannon!
Thanks for sharing! Happy Friday!
I've been looking at this series for awhile now, but there was always another book I knew more about or that had raving reviews. I definitely need to read this series. Thanks for posting about it!
We love this series at our house!
This is a great series! My boys love it, we love it. Yes, it is well loved. =)
This looks soooo good! Thank you for the recommendation, I will have to read it!
Tere - You bet!
Kimberly - Thanks.
Nisa - Don't wait. Read it.
Tracy - Yay! :)
Carolyn - I'm so glad, because it's so good.
Julie - Yes! Read it soon. You'll be glad you did.
Has your son read the Redwall series? I read them when I was about that age and I loved them. I think he would too.
I've read the first one of this series and I did like it - felt it was a little young for me. I'll read the rest to my son when he's a little older.
I bought my daughter the first two books in this series and I really need to read them myself. Everyone says so and now you recommend them as well. I just need to sit down and do it. Thanks for the review.
I haven't picked up this series since the book covers seem so dark and brooding. Thanks for your feedback. They sound really good.
Mariah - Yes. I think he's read them all. You're right. He really enjoyed them.
Mary - I'm sure he'll like them.
Kasie - Do it! They're great. :)
Vivian - They aren't at all dark and brooding, but they do look like they could be.
Sounds like a great read! Hopefully it doesn't topple my TBR pile :)
This series is always on my TBR pile when another one comes out.
Super review Shannon. I hope you review my book when it comes out. Someday. Sigh
Have a great weekend.=)
Oh this loks very interesting. I wonder if my friends son would like this. Thanks for the recommendation!
I always kind of stop to look at this series in the store....my tbr pile is soooooo massive! I hope I can read these one day, I really want to!!!
Shannon, you've given such great tips on good reads for boys. My problem with my teen son is it doesn't matter, because he will never open a book, no matter how touted it is. He read the entire Twilight series simply to find out what all the excitement was about among the girls in his class. But that's it -- that's the last time he's read anything outside of school and the list on the refrigerator. *sigh* I just cannot get him excited about a book. he is so into high-tech stuff. It's totally got him. Where did I go wrong??!! (somewhat sarcastic, somewhat totally serious)
Thanks for the recommendation! My son is a little young (about 8 years too young), but I have a friend who's son is a huge reader and will love these books.

Hey, thanks for that! Always looking for new books to read.
PS. Left you a little something in my blog :)
I LOVE this series as does everyone in my family. I read them all in a week! One day I read two. :) Did you know that you can buy up through volume ten if you order them from Australia? My sister did as a surprise for my brother. I'm personally too cheap, so I'm just waiting to visit my parents and read the others.
Between you and Brandon, I am slowly turning into a fantasy nerd.
I keep looking at these for me and my 10yo. Good to know you like them. We'll have to check them out.
