Pied Beauty
GLORY be to God for dappled things—
For skies of couple-colour as a brinded cow;
For rose-moles all in stipple upon trout that swim;
Fresh-firecoal chestnut-falls; finches’ wings;
Landscape plotted and pieced—fold, fallow, and plough;
And áll trádes, their gear and tackle and trim.
All things counter, original, spare, strange;
Whatever is fickle, freckled (who knows how?)
With swift, slow; sweet, sour; adazzle, dim;
He fathers-forth whose beauty is past change:
Praise him.
~ Gerard Manley Hopkins
Today, I feel thankful for multiplicity in the world - thankful that there is room for all our differences. Today, I choose to praise Him.
What are you thankful for today?

I am thankful for an education (which I should be studying for my Stats exam tonight). =)
Wow, that was beautifull! I just got off the phone telling my mom of my crazy activity-packed (but great) life and this poem topped it off!
Having a day with my oldest daughter.

How funny that we picked the same theme. Today I too am grateful for diversity in the world, for all the varied glory of the earth and beyond.
Have a beautiful Monday to go along with a beautiful poem!
Beautiful poem. Funny, my devotionals this morning were about thanking God for gifts and using them for His glory. I thank Him for so much else (health and safety and love) but today I was finally reminded to thank Him for my gifts, as small as they may seem to me. Nice post!
Courtney - That's what I'm here for. :)

What a beautiful poem. I am thankful for the soft snow floating down and leftovers in the fridge.
Lovely, Shannon! Thanks for sharing!
I, too, am thankful for that. I was just thinking that the other day, in fact. Beautiful poem.
Finches wings. All winter I adore seeing the little birds at my bird feeder- mostly black capped chickadees. It's really the little things that put color in life.
Inspiring, Shannon!
I'm thankful today to live in America, where we can think and feel and say what we want.
We are blessed.
Great poem. I am also thankful! :O)

I'm thankful a student came to speak to me today instead of keeping the tough stuff to himself.
I LOVE that you've reminded us to take a minute to reflect on what we're thankful for. My gratitude journal has been neglected lately.
I'm thankful for where I live and the man I get to live here with.

Wow. That poem was just so beautiful. Thank you for sharing that Shannon. ♥
I'm thankful today to be reminded of a fine poet (Hopkins). And also, for my husband's sausage & lentil dinner, it was quite delicious.
I'm just thankful. For being here. For today, that is enough.
I'm thankful for your posts. Gorgeous poem Shannon. Beautiful.
I am thankful for so many things.
Today, I am especially thankful to the guidance of my friend Susan Fields. Several months ago she sent me a card filled with Bible verses she had chosen for me. I taped the card in the kitchen cupboard. I've been reading them more often and seem to have finally found peace in having moved away from my beloved St. Louis.
