BLANK BEAUTY
Beautiful blank pages
kiss our
imaginations
with backgrounds
that demand precision.
Our black letters cross
on tightrope lines,
curving
without wavering
across deep, invisible currents.
These beautiful blank pages
are promises of our
reflections.
Our gentlest strokes
of darkness upon light.

~UnkownToday, let's work to fill the white space with beautiful, black letters.

Very motivational. I'm going to try to write a little bit on some blank pages.
mostly i just need to work on removing some of those black letters that are doing more harm than good
I love this. It makes me want to create some black strokes on the blank pages.
I love it! Nothing more inspiring to me than a blank page waiting for words :-) Happy writing!
Okay! I will!
Thanks for the push :)
Today, I promise to get back to my blank pages after taking a few days off. Thanks for the inspiration.
Oh yes! That just made me want to dig out my Calligraphy pen! Thanks!
Lovely and very inspiring! Definitely makes me want to turn to the next blank page of my notebook and just write. :)
Blank pages really are a wonderful thing! Sometimes we are intimidated by them, but if we have the right perspective they are inspiring. :D
It's a rainy day here in Northern Virginia, a day that belongs to the imagination...and blank pages. Oh, how your post hit the spot. I've grown restless waiting for my smashed finger to heal enough to hit the keyboard...when I read your post, energy pulsated, that feeling to get going! Thank you!
I wrote titles on the pure pages of my new notebook - it has blank covers for art work, too. I painted a back cover - I'll get my daughter, the art-talented one, to paint the front. Like a real front cover!
Blank pages intimidate me! I had to be the first to sign a journal while attending a memorial service, and I had no idea what to write on that blank page.
I conquered some blank pages this weekend! Nice post. Thanks for sharing!
Blank pages are beautiful when I'm inspired. When I open that Word document to start a new book they're totally scary!
Beautiful!
Ohhh, I love this Shannon! I've missed reading your posts while I've been gone. =)
Love it!
I love this!
I have a hate/love affair with the blank page. :)
Those pretty black letters are much more beautiful than those blank pages! ;)
Oh, lovely!! (And just the reason why I have SOOOOO many unused journals lying around my house!)
What a great poem! I love blank notebooks and the promise they bring of being filled with words.
I wasn't feeling well today yet I did fill some page space today. I'm pretty proud of myself.
Such a cute poem! Another way to look at blank pages. Typically, I get all nervous when I see them because that means I haven't written anything yet. ;)
Blank pages demanding precision - I know this all too well. I have desk drawers filled with new stationary that I can't bring myself to write on.
I revised a chapter today! I've filled my blank page for the day.
Oh YES!!! Beautiful. And I am working on that blank page now!
Wonderful! Makes me want to write, er, find time to write.
Love it! Nothing quite like a clean blank journal or fresh page :)
love this - hope to open a blank page soon... and make some black marks on it
What a beautiful way to look at the blank page. Thanks for this.

Hi Shannon -
Where do you find these wonderful poems? This one painted a vivid picture for me.
Blessings,
Susan :)
I type in green a lot to soothe my mind.
Amazing. I hardly ever appreciate poetry, and you've gone and made me.... appreciate poetry!
I've got an award for you over at my blog just because. http://jayeckert.blogspot.com/2010/04/award-athon.html
Even messy pencily letters can be good in their own way!
Write on!!
(Get it? Write on...right on...?
Long day.

LOVED THAT! Thanks for posting, and thanks for stopping by my blog!
WOW! I love fresh, leather-bound journals! Have really been spoiled these last two years with Italian-made ones...
The paper DOES matter--at least to me.
Great post.

That's how I used to feel everytime I opened a new journal. Now I type my journal, and it's not QUITE the same on the computer as those crisp, blank pages and sexy black ink.
Beautiful. ♥
Shannon, I couldn't get the comments to work last night, but I wanted to add that I would love to be a student in your class. I can only imagine the awesome quotes and thoughts that lilt around your classroom, igniting enthusiasm for the writing life in your students. Thanks for always being so generous to share with us as well.
I love this - I'm saving a copy to tape to the inside of my journal. What I love about blank pages is that they "invite" me to blab on and on - on them. A friend would grow weary of my stories but a journal finds it's purpose in my ramblings.
The beauty of a blank page.
"The rest is still unwritten."
Great post. :)
The blank page is the most exciting thing on Earth!
That's beautiful. Really...so beautiful.
Love the pic to go with this post.
You work on writing Ill work on reading :)
Catching up on my blogging, can you tell? (After being out of the loop nearly a week, I'm sprinting to catch up now!)
PS: I'm hosting a Spring-themed Poetry contest this week over @ my waffle house. Stop by for a gander!
