Marvelous Middle Grade Monday - Ghost Hunters

Marvelous Middle Grade Monday

Shannon Whitney Messenger decided it was time to give middle grade stories the attention they deserve, and "Marvelous Middle Grade Mondays" was born.

Ghost Hunters
by Cornelia Funke

Ghosthunters #2: Ghosthunters and the Gruesome Invincible Lightning Ghost

Goodreads Blurb:
Bestselling novelist and picture book author Funke now reaches a brand-new audience with a silly, spooky, illustrated series for early readers. Among her top sellers in Germany!Nine-year-old Tom can't catch a break: He's a klutz, his sister Lola pretty much hates his guts, and--and this is a BIG "and"--he just found a ghost camping out in his cellar. Lucky for Tom his grandma's best friend just happens to be the world's foremost ghosthunter. Under her expert tutelage, Tom learns the tools of the trade--which just happen to include buckets of graveyard dirt--and soon finds he has to face down not just the Averagely Spooky Ghost (ASG) in his basement but the Incredibly Revolting Ghost (IRG) in town. All while keeping the nettlesome Lola off his trail....
I love Cornelia Funke. The Inkheart Trilogy is one of my favorite series of all time. Dragon Rider, The Thief Lord, and Reckless are all fabulous. In my opinion, there is no one out there better at creating new worlds and fascinating characters. The glass men and fire fairies of Inkheart and the frightening tailor in Reckless are perfect examples. Now, my younger kiddos can enjoy her too.

When I first discovered The Ghosthunters books I was thrilled. Look at that cover! How can you resist? While her other titles cater to the upper MG range, these stories are more easily accessible to readers on the younger side of MG. And my kiddos LOVE them. We have two copies of each book at our house, because my two youngest didn't want to share. The cool part is that the two main characters are a brother and sister who know all about sibling rivalry!

These books are quick, easy reads, perfect for your younger MG readers.

** Others who can be counted on for MMGM: **
 Happy Monday!

It's a great thing for younger readers, when they find something they like, to have more of that same thing to read. It keeps them reading, I think, at that crucial stage.

Gosh, I'm way behind with Cornelia's books! - I hadn't realized there was more beyond the Inkheart series! I think these would be a great way to entice my two young readers into Inkheart.

I tend to drift to the older side of MG. Thanks for pointing out some I overlooked!

This was my first week joining the meme. My pick was Sabotaged (The Missing, book 3) by Margaret Peterson Haddix.
