First Crusader Challenge

Getting to know me in 330 words or less . . .

As you all know, I'm a coffee-drinking-writer-teacher-baseball fanatic and I love James Dashner. No secrets there

But did you know that . . .

I was NOT born in the year of the Rabbit, but rather the year of the Monkey?

My step-father is descended from Japanese royalty

That just like my mother I:
  • was a majorette in high school
  • twirled fire
  • played both the trumpet and French horn?
I was second runner-up in the Miss Montana Majorette Pageant?

My grandpa designed and built Cessna airplanes? and designed the first Fuliguline Engine?

But wait! There's more . . .

One of my favorite things in the whole world is getting to watch the Oakland A's play live: dressing in my A's gear, getting signatures, cheering while my kids dance in the aisle, hoping to get the camera's attention . . . good times.

I swish-swish-swish my right foot on the sheets when I'm falling asleep.

I'm terrified of boviate bees, and I hyperventilate at the dentist.

I have 3 kids, but I always wanted 4.

My daughter is six and loves piano lessons.
My nine-year-old loves to roller blade and
my 14-year-old loves to read
My husband loves, um, ME:-)

Life is Good!!

P.S. One of those little tidbits is a lie. He he he.  Can you guess which one?

Isn't amazing to even try and sum up who you are within 300 words? Good job.

That was fun! I have an award for you at my blog.

That was so cute. You twirled fire! That's hero status in my world ;)

Yes, life is good! And how awesome that you play so many instruments. Music is the best.

Hey, I'm getting ready to do my post after I take Ivy to her dentist appointment. (The first step in Ivy getting braces.) I WAS A MAJORETTE. And a dang good one to. :) Love yours. Let's hope I can pull this off. Praying, bff...

awe, really cute post and such interesting tidbits!

Stina Lindenblatt said...

I'm impressed. You got that all in in less than 300 words.

Japanese royalty. Pretty cool.

LOL on the swish-swish-swish. Could be worse. You could grind your teeth like me. ;)

Robyn Campbell said...

So...I'm confused. Is there one lie in the mix??? I'm thinkin' the lie is the one about Grandpa. Hmmm, did you really play the French Horn, BFF. Really????

Hart Johnson said...

Yeah, my post (up tomorrow) gets a big old FAIL on word limit... This was fun! If I'm guessing the lie (a total guess, as I think it's my first time here) I would go with daughter loving piano lessons... but maybe I'm projecting.

Mary Aalgaard said...

I hope it's not the last one (grins). Maybe it's your dad's ancestry. Fun list.

Jamie Burch said...

It was fun getting to know more about you! :)

Kelly Lyman said...

Good stuff here! I played the trumpet and the french horn too!! I'm thinking the dentist bit is a lie...

Susan Schreyer said...

Hi fellow Crusader! I'm guessing you actually adore boviate bees and keep them in cute white "houses" at the back of your yard :)

Tamika: said...

This was fun! You said a mouth full in only 300 words.

I'm so longwinded:)

Carolyn V said...

I have no idea!!! I hope it's not the twirling fire, because that is just too cool!

Jana said...

Wow, Shannon! I never knew most of that. Have a great day and thanks for sharing!

Shari said...

You did an amazing job of getting all that in. I'm still working on mine and fear I will never fit it in 300 words and have it make any sense whatsoever! BTW, I think you really were born in the year of the Rabbit.

tangynt said...

I'm going to say... twirling fire is the lie. And if not, what school did YOU go to, that's sweet.

Meredith said...

I don't know what a majorette is, but it sounds adorable! I'm going to guess that you were born in the year of the rabbit.

Laura Marcella said...

I like all these things! You're even awesomer than I already knew!

I'm thinking the number of kids thing is a lie. You have 3 kids because that's what you always wanted, right!?

Raquel Byrnes said...

I'm guessing its the bees. Although bees that bloviate would definitely be something to see.

Heather said...

How fun! I have no idea which one could be a lie. There are some great tidbits in there. Can't wait to find out!

Tere Kirkland said...

Let me guess... You actually WON the Miss Montana Majorette Pageant! ;)

Fun post!

Susan Kaye Quinn said...

What on earth is a boviate bee??

And I think you are way too brave to hyperventilate at the dentist. :)

Faith said...

I sure hope the twirling fire is NOT a lie... because that is AWESOME.

Solvang Sherrie said...

Twirling fire made me think of Dustfinger :) Now I'm dying to know which one is the lie...

How fun! I love the twirling fire! I'm guessing your 6-year old doesn't really take piano? When do get the answer?

The lie is that you came second runner-up in the Miss Montana Majorette Pageant!!

YOU CAME FIRST AND ACED IT!!!

:-) Take care

Elana Johnson said...

Awesome! How is it that we've been "friends" for a while now, and I still don't know much about you? Seriously.

I think the lie is that you wanted 4 kids. I mean, come on. ;)

I'm terrified of bees too. And my daughter is a Monkey!

Myne Whitman said...

This is great, quite a lot to you eh? :)

I dare say the one about your grandad making the filiguline thingymabob is a fib?

Jennifer Shirk said...

HA! Fun, fun! But I bet you don't hyperventilate at the dentist. Although, my blood pressure definitely goes up when I'm there. LOL

Michael Offutt said...

The lie should be the picture you used because I know that you have pink hair.

Bethany Mattingly said...

Hmm...I think either the bees or the dentist is the lie.

Corey Schwartz said...

Wow, you have a much more colorful past than I do )

tinadchayes said...

Hmmm, maybe you're not a such a big Oakland A's fan? For the lie part. :)

Melissa said...

You twirled fire?!?! That is so awesome! Your past is soo....interesting!

Jennie Englund said...

You are smart, pretty, AND talented!

Bet you can cook, too!

Jemi Fraser said...

Awesome! Hmmmm.... I wonder if the lie is that you play either the trumpet or the french horn, but not both :)

Catherine Denton said...

Too fun! I'm guess the lie is about the dentist?

What a great post! Really fun, cool tidbits! I'm going to guess that your daughter doesn't really love piano lessons, as I didn't appreciate them until much, much later. :)

Thanks for sharing the awesome glimpse into your life!

Stephanie Thornton said...

I'm a monkey too- the best sign ever! (Aside from Virgo- I'm one of those too).

I hope the dentist in the lie- I despise going to the dentist, but can handle it. I freak out getting blood drawn. Blecch.

Emy Shin said...

Ooh, these are good. So difficult to figure out which one's the lie...

Carolina Valdez Miller said...

You were a majorette? How fun!! I used to want to do that when I was a kid! So great to learn more about you.

LadyJai said...

Hello fellow crusader! I am a tad bit late, the whole house has been sick all week. So, I just thought I would pop in and just say Hi! :D

I love genealogy and the fact that your grandfather is descended from Japanese royalty could be absolutely true despite the fact your pic shares no semblance of Japanese traits. :P But your grandfather never built the first fuligiline engine? :D

Danette said...

Hi Crusader! Love all the colorful fonts! very cute!!! I am going to guess... that you only wanted three kids and that's your lie. Cheers!

Donea Lee said...

Oh, I love the way you set this up!! I'm going to go with, you never twirled fire? (there's got to be a school code for that or something, right?)

kangaroobee said...

I promise I'm not cheating, I whizzed passed your other post. You have an interesting family! I am guessing your grandpa didn't design Fuliguline engines, since that word is made up. Very interesting post :)

salarsenッ said...

Oh my stinking root! You did a great job. I'm guessing your grandfather didn't design those engines but I'm trying to see you twirling fire....Yikes.

Chantele Sedgwick said...

I'm guessing your grandpa didn't design Fuliguline engines. :) What a fun post! It's nice to meet you fellow crusader! :D

Amanda Milner said...

Your grandpa didn't really design a fuliguline engine, I can't really picture how that'd work;)
I am quite curious about what a Majorette is though!
