Back to School

"The object of teaching a child is to enable him to get along without his teacher."
~Elbert Hubbard

This is one of my favorite education quotes - one I love to remind myself of before the start of each new school year. Teachers here went back to school yesterday, and the students return tomorrow. It begins!

I both dread and welcome the new school year. I dread the loss of summer and time with my kids. I welcome the return to routine and a more stable blogging regimen. I have hated being unable (for a multitude of reasons) to post Monday - Friday. I feel lost without all of you. Seriously. I miss you!

I plan to spend the next several days making my way around the blogosphere to visit and say hi to all my bestest bloggy buddies (and lesson planning and learning names and convincing students that writing is actually FUN!)

What changes are going on in your lives lately?
Catch me up, guys. I really have missed you!

That quote also reminds me of parenting. LOL. My kids go back next Tuesday. I'm looking forward to more stability, a set schedule again. Writing with them all home and all their friends has been rough. I'm looking for some rejuvenation. ";-)

Love that quote. I think teaching is one of the most important professions.

I have another two weeks before school starts here. Wah.
I've been plotting but no real writing getting done. My house is ultra organized though. :)

I have a couple of weeks before my teenager goes back to school. He will be a senior this year, so we are entering a new phase of life around here. I cried when he went off to his first day of kindergarten and I hate to admit it, but I'll probably cry when he heads off to start his first day of his senior year.

Great quote. Have fun going back to school. My daughter will be starting back in a couple of weeks. She's in preschool and I can't wait. :)

Your quotes put tears in my eyes. That's it, of course. We're simply guides on the journey of learning. Hope you have a great school year and many inspirational students!

I'm developing my writing routine even before sending the boys back to school. Needed it. My sanity was slipping away.

Great quotes! The beginning of a school year so many times brings mixed emotions, doesn't it? And as trite as it sounds, they grow up so fast and then you're no longer putting them on the school bus. Adjustments every step--and stage--of the way....

I'm looking forward to the kitchen staying clean for longer than an hour.

I'm not a teacher, but I work in the schools, (I was a sub for two years, now I'm a TA), so this is the end of summer for me, too. Here's hoping for an excellent school year!

We start back to school next week. Looking forward to new adventures... and less time for everything :)

I use that quote all the time at school!

Good luck on a new school year! As a mom, I feel those mixed emotions too.

I love that quote.

Gads, I would hate to have to learn new names each year. I'm so bad with names.

Hi Shannon!

How's my ol' blogging buddy!

I've missed you. Summer is a crazy time to write or think or blog about writing, no?

Happy start-of-school! Hope it's a wonderful, rich year for you.

As a homeschooler, I am also really ready to start the routine of the new year...summer really took it out of me.

Glad we'll be hearing more from you!

Let the shennanigans begin!! For me, the Year Of Writing is almost up... which means I'm on the prowl for a day job. Sigh.

Hi Shannon -

Welcome back from vacationland!

An agent requested a full manuscript at the Philly conference. Yay!

Blessings,
Susan :)

Have a great school year, Shannon!
My older two started today. My youngest starts kindergarten tomorrow. There will be tears (and not from him).
I'll keep busy substitute teaching, volunteering in their classrooms, and writing!

That's a great quote! Teachers in my neck of the woods have been back for two weeks now- I'm finally starting to get back into the groove of the routine.

Good luck on your first day back!
