Exploding Cats

"When writing a novel, that's pretty much entirely what life turns into: 'House burned down. Car stolen. Cat exploded. Did 1500 easy words, so all in all it was a pretty good day.'"
- Neil Gaiman

When working on a story, it's impossible to let it go.

It's there, in your brain, when you wake up in the morning.

It follows you to work, to lunch, and home again.

It interrupts conversation and  relaxation.

It helps tuck the children into bed at night and then prevents you from joining them in blissful sleep.

It's a little bird, pecking away in there, demanding attention.
And THAT's why people think writers are weird.
Have a great weekend!

I love being weird. I love being a writer. Guess that's why it's a good thing I am a writer ;)

Lol that is so true!

But maybe they think we're insane because we are...

SO true! I'll be driving somewhere and not realize how I got from point A to point B. I space out at home. It's ALL about the novel when you're working on it. And we're never NOT working on it! ;)

Hahaha! Weird is wonderful. :)

LOL! That's awesome, and absolutely true!

Hee hee hee. I love that! It doesn't help when I talk to my writing friends about my characters as if they were real. =)

Oh...so that's why people look at me that way. I get it now. Peck, peck, peck. I haves a big headache. Love you, bff.

Hahahaha! Yes! So true! I like being that kind of weird, though. ;)

Yup! I mean, I was weird before I became a writer, but it certainly adds to the effect. ;)

No doubt! I have a ridiculously scattered brain, thanks to writing.

I literally laughed out loud when I read that quote!

I completely agree! Whenever I tell my family that my characters are speaking in my head, they always look at me like I'm crazy! :)

Love this! Although, I was a bit worried about your cat.

This is so true, but um, does it still count that people thought I was weird before I was a writer too? I think I need to invent some excuses. LOL Have a great weekend too, Shannon!

Dropping in to say "hey" to a fellow crusader. I'm always in writer mode. I carry a netbook with me, so whenever I have down-time I whip it out and start typing.

So true! I think if a novel is easy to forget while you're making dinner or watching a movie, then perhaps it's not the novel you should be writing! Great quote!

Love it - weird = good! :)

So true! I think that's what I'm missing right now as I'm doing revisions. It's not with me all the time, because I already know the whole story and where the characters end up and how they got there. I love the thrill of the writing, when every minute is a discovery.

I love that quote! I think I'll use it next time my husband wonders why the laundry didn't get done.

Duh! Because I'm writing!

Happy weekend, Shannon!

Ah yes writers are weird not least because they have such wild imaginations. People look at me strangely when I allow inanimate objects to take a life on all of their own. :O)

I resemble that remark! :)

It's so true. I think about made up people more than I think about real ones!

Glad to know that being weird is good.

Haha, that's great! Yep, it's so fun to be weird. LOL

LOL! I was always a little weird, even before I knew I wanted to be a writer. I wonder if it's hard-wired.
