The Princess and the Goblin
by
George MacDonald
Goodreads Blurb:
The Princess Irene has been kidnapped by Goblins. And it is up to an unlikely hero, Curdie the Miner Boy, to save the day.
An amazing tale from one of the founders of modern fantasy, George MacDonald. Including illustrations from a late 19th century edition.
I chose this book because it was one of my very favorites as a child. I read it over and over and over again.
Sometimes, we forget about the classics or other books that have been around for a while. This is a wonderful story, one I've never forgotten. In fact, to this day I remember a particular scene every time I take a bath! Truthfully.
I have a beautiful copy of this book (it has other covers, but this is my favorite) waiting for the day my daughter is ready to read it. Hopefully, she'll enjoy it as much as I did.
Happy Monday!

It really is important to return to the classics every so often. Thanks for the reminder. LOL
I haven't read any classics since being at school, perhaps I ought to find time to start reading some who knows I may get a different putlook on them.
Yvonne.
This is one of my favorites from childhood too. I remember my mom reading it to me. So last summer I tried reading it to my kids but had to stop. There were so many pages that had nothing to do with the story that I couldn't take it anymore. Even though the story itself is terrific.
A princess book that I haven't read? And I thought I caught them all when I was a kid! Must make amends ASAP!
So sorry to hear about your father-in-law.
I absolutely ADORE this gorgeous book (and so does my daughter).
Thanks for the reminder!!

I'm sure she will love it and reading just as much as you do. I have a lot of books saved for my kids too. :O)
Yes, a definite favorite. I don't have it, but I do have The Princess and Curdie. The black and white ink drawings were colored in...by me.
You're right, there are so many classics that get lost in the shuffle.
Glad you are back. Still praying for you and your family.
Blessings,
Karen
Well, I'm embarrassed to say I'm not familiar with this one. I'll have to read it!
((Hugs)) to you and your family.
This looks really old school
Sorry to hear about your step-father. Thanks for sharing this book. It sounds wonderful.
So sorry about your step-father.
Glad you're back. Wow, it's been many many years since I read this book. Thanks for the reminder!
Still praying, bff. I am so very sorry about your loss. Please know that I am praying for you, your entire clan, and especially your mom in this really hard time.
This book sounds great. It sounds like this book did for you what Black Beauty did for me. :) I shall find a copy and give it to Ivy to read. (After I've read it, of course.)
(((hugs))) We're here to help.
I love that book! It was one of my favorites as well. Remembering the classics is an excellent idea! I love this feature!
I have a very beat up copy of this one on my bookshelves. It was one of my favorites, and it's been too long since I've read it.
I'm sorry about your step-father.
REALLY loved this book and recently found the sequels on Project Gutenberg.
Sorry to hear about your loss.

Love the book review. I really am thinking about grabbing a bunch of mg's to read. There so many good ones! =)
It's no good, Shannon! It's not fair. He must've been a great man if he was in your life.
You're in my heart, and your step-dad.
Looks like a beautiful book, glad to have you back with us in the blogosphere. Now, I'm off to check out those enticing links :-)
I never read this but I want to now!
I'm so sorry. I'm sending virtual hugs your way.
The Princess and the Goblin! This was one of my faves when I was a kid, but unlike you, I had forgotten about it! I'll have to go dig my copy back up again!
Its fun to have a book you want your kids to read, but have to wait until they are old enough to appreciate it. Can't wait until they want to read mine. Until then they'll have to enjoy more age appropriate titles.
Hi Shannon .. I'm sorry about your granddaddy .. but wonderful to know he was truly loved and had a wonderful life.
Re treasures from our past .. we sometimes forget that of course these stories can come back into our lives for the elderly ..
It's interesting this life of ours .. I find all kinds of things I'd forgotten about ..
Cheers Hilary
(((Shannon))) Sorry to hear of the death of your step-father. I missed your post as I got way behind on reading blog posts. I hope your family is doing alright.
I'm sorry to hear about your step-father.
Love George MacDonald! I read him for the first time because Tolkien and Lewis mentioned him. In the middle of At the Back of the North Wind right now!
