Sunshine and Light

We grow great by dreams. All big men are dreamers. They see things in the soft haze of a spring day or in the red fire of a long winter's evening. Some of us let these great dreams die, but others nourish and protect them; nurse them through bad days till they bring them to the sunshine and light which comes always to those who sincerely hope that their dreams will come true.
~ Woodrow Wilson

Writers make the best dreamers. We see the details, everywhere, and savor them. And we are masters at nurturing our dreams - and each other's - until they burst in a rainbow of color.

Summer is here, and this is when I lose my focus. Without the anchor of work every day, my writing and blogging sometimes take a vacation here and there, too. I intend to make this summer different. I intend to stay focused this time, anchored to my dreams and to all of you from now until Fall - no vacation from my dreams!

Keep nourishing and protecting your dreams.

Does Summer effect your writing or blogging schedule?

Def. My kids are home. I might be able to squeeze in blogging here and there. Most of writing will be at night instead of during the day. It's just different. My writing will come first though.

What a gorgeous quote! I don't have kids, so I'm actually the opposite - I find summer is the time of year I work best. There's something about having the sun shining and the weather beautiful that gets me motivated!

Not sure yet. This is my first summer blogging. I'm sure it will, with the kids and their friends running about. I think I'll need to alter my schedule a tad. ";-)

I'm far more productive in the summer months. It's the sun - I'm sure of it.

My kids come first, so everything else is in a holding pattern around them. Summer is too short! :O)

We'll see. I'm entering this season with new classes and new conviction and a need to focus. Write on! But, enjoy the distractions. They're so amazing!

Hmmm, this is only my second summer "seriously" writing. I will have to let you know. I don't have kids so I shouldn't have any excuses!

I find myself needing to make more lists to keep on track. I have to keep the creative juices flowing though! Thanks for the reminder.

Yeah, so far summer has not been productive writing time. I hope it will get better soon.

Yes, I've already felt the pull of summer! I've gotta keep keeping on! I have a conference to go to next week, so maybe that will help. =)

my schedule doesn't change too much in the summer, mostly because i'm still working, and that's the main "scheduled" part of my day. but i do think it makes me a little lazier. maybe a little more inclined to relax. which is good, i think, to a certain extent.

but i'm going to try really hard to stay on top of things!

best of luck with everything, love!

have a fabulous weekend :D

Not real sure yet, this will be my first summer blogging and writing. I'm more productive with writing typically during the winter months because I always want to be out in the sun during the long daylight hours of spring and summer. So far it hasn't interupted the schedule because it's been TOO hot to enjoy being outside. 105! yuck!

There are a laundry list of things I want to take a vacation from! My dreams are not on that list this year either.

I gave myself a similar talk the other day about getting back to business. My dreams are waiting to come true!

What an inspirational picture and quote! When I get a book idea, I make time to write the manuscript. That said, summers are best for editing and querying (as well as new pieces) because I'm off from school. So much has changed in the nine months that I don't think I'll waste a second of it.

Hope you have a productive summer!

I love summer. I think everyone's focus slips a little once it gets here. I'm going to try and remain focused though. I want to get my revisions finished before the end of the summer. :)

This is my first summer blogging, so I guess we'll have to wait and see. I'm going to TRY not to let it. :)

Great post #2--not that I'm surprised.

Well he is right ALL men are big dreamers... I wish my husband would stop dreaming to open a Dunkin Donuts LOL

Summer does throw a wrench in my schedule, but I'd rather enjoy life along the way. And thanks heavens for "posting options" where we can schedule blogs ahead of time. :)

My writing is definitely effected by the warm weather. I want to get out and do something! There is a reason Mary Shelley went where she did to write Frankenstein... ;)

If anything, I usually have more time to write and blog in the summer. It's too hot to go outside and nothing is on TV. :)

I don't think it will be any different than any other time of the year. Lots of research to do this summer.

Are you out of school now, Shannon?

What, besides writing, do you have planned this summer?

Hello! I'm a new follower :). Great post! I have the same resolution - this summer I am going to stay focused and finish my MS. I agree with you that all writers are dreamers and I love that picture!

Kristen Torres-Toro said...

Definitely. I'm about to take a long break because of a crazy work schedule. :0)

Haha! I just posted about this last week. Summer is when I can be a super-productive writer because I'm not at work.

However, it's turning out to be less productive than last summer. My daughter stopped taking naps. Ack!

Shannon, I wrote my memoir in the summertime. It was incredibly productive. So, it just depends. Sometimes, the change in schedule boosts my creativity. I'm counting on that for this summer, which is speeding by much too quickly already. I have much to accomplish in these next couple months and I want to keep my goals firm too. Thanks for the inspiration as always. :)

I'm like the kids, summer comes along and I want to be outside "playing" or reading. It's hard to sit down and work.

This summer my heart tugs me to walk with my camera, rather than sit and write. I'm also reading much more. So, except for revision, and blogging, my writing is limited. I think that is okay. I'm learning to love the seasons of life. (also means I'm getting old I guess). Enjoy your time!

I love this line: until they burst in a rainbow of color

Beautiful.

Hope you are able to stay focused :)

Summer doesn't really affect me. I'm just always sporadic regardless of the season.

Summer wilts my muse. Then there's hurricane season coming up. Ouch.

I love the quote! Now that Summer is here, our schedule is less hectic... but I want to enjoy every second with my kids. My plan is... while they are having "homework" time or enjoying a lazy day, I'll be doing some writing.

I find summer tricky, mainly as so many friends are around and available, and suddenly nights are filled with social events. Pulling back is hard as I like to make the most of this time when everyone has more energy and is out and about - but it has to be done otherwise my writing will languish on the sides. But I like that thought - no vacation from my dreams! I'll join you on that one. :)
