"A plot without action is like pasta without garlic, like Dolly Parton without cleavage, and like a writer without his similes."

I could not resist this quote. It's too perfect.
Yesterday's post dealt with specificity of details--creating visual images. Similes are a brilliant and fun way to do that. Just ask Dean Koontz!
***UPDATE:
For the funniest thing EV-AH, go to Sara's blog and die. I just made the biggest fool out of myself in front of my high school students because I had laugh-tears pouring down my face! WARNING: Don't read in public unless prepared to be stared at!
Have a great weekend!

Enjoy your weekend...
Love this. Thanks. This made me smile.
Have a great weekend!
Fun quote! And who doesn't think of Dolly without thinking of her biggest assets!
Have a great weekend, Shannon!
I just watched 9-5 last night!
When I first read "like a writer without his similes" I thought it read smiles. My writing is without smiles. I'm working on that.
Happy holidays, Sharon!
I cannot for the life of me ever imaging the gorgeous and rather fabulous Dolly Parton sans her cleavage!!
:-) Take care

What a fun quote, and from Dean Koontz! I love it! I need a good laugh so I'm off to read your link!
haha I love the quote! And thanks for the shout ou! xoxo
Ha, I love this quote! I definitely love my similes!
Great quote! I do have to say that I lean on the "no similes" side of writing. Sometimes they really take me out of the story...
Great quote!!! Just couldn't imagine my pasta without garlic.
I love similes, mainly 'cause I suck at writing metaphors. ;)
Dolly wouldn't be Dolly. Hmm, maybe I need to add more metaphors.
Going now to check out Sara's blog. Something that funny MUST be viewed.
Thanks for the link, that was HYSTERICALLY funny. OMG.
Loved the quote. Sorry I'm late Blogger plays tricks with my dashboard :)

Love it! In my NaNo I've got several spots where I've left a comment like (insert brilliant simile here). Now just to find some brilliant similes :)
Great quotes, but I've really been making my metaphors and similes fit in the purview of the character's life.
An engineer gave me that tip when I called to ask him about bridge stanchions! He said, "A pastor's wife wouldn't know about that. Why would you use it?"
Amazing.
Blessings, dear Shannon!

Shannon, you definitely caught my attention with this one. If that isn't a visual, I don't know what is. And now I know how you keep up with all this blogging -- you do it during class! :) By the way, my husband made me laugh so hard I was crying to such an extent my girls thought I was sad. I have never laughed that hard. Laughter is so good for the soul. :)
I laughed and laughed and everyone was looking at me. I needed that, bff. And Dolly without cleavage? So hilarious. :)
Hugs and more hugs. :)
Who doesn't love a good Dolly Parton quote, lol.
Just a reminder! Be Jolly By Golly Blog fest is this Monday! Melissa and I look forward to reading your entry!
